A group of employees of the “Dendrology Garden” PLE went on a business trip to the Lankaran-Astara region

On 4-5 September, 2025, a staff group of the “Dendrology Garden” public legal entity (PLE) under the authority of the head of the Executive Power of Baku City went on a business trip to the Lankaran-Astara region.

During the 2-day business trip, scientific research was conducted at the Lankaran Scientific Regional Center and Hirkan National Park. The basic aim is to study the natural and cultural dendroflora in the territory, conduct dendrochronological analysis of happening changes in the populations of rare species, collect herbarium and seed samples, and introduce the obtained decorative, essential oil and economically crucial citrus plants to the research areas of the “Dendrology Garden” PLE.

The reasons for the narrowing of plant ranges were identified, and studies were conducted on the criteria for threat, biological characteristics, and causes of changes in natural resources according to IUCN version 3.1. Herbarium specimens of Quercus castaneifolia C.A.Mey, Zelkova carpinifola K.Koch., Parrotia persica C.A.Mey., Crataegus monogyna Jacq., Alnus subcordata C.A.Mey., Aesculus hippocastanum L., Alnus glutinosa L., etc. were collected from woody plants, and seed samples of Cynara scolymus L. were collected.

In order to enrich the plant fund of the Dendrology Garden, experts obtained mature individuals of the species Euphorbia amygdaloides, Thea Azerbaycan 2, Psidium guajava L., Passiflora L., Parrotia persica C.A.Mey.,, Pinus sibirica Du.Tour., Cercis chinensis Bunge., Buxus hyrcanum L. from the Hirkan National Park and introduced them into the garden area. Research work has commenced on Psidium guajava L. (Ordinary guajava), a valuable fruit plant cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates.
