34 years have passed since the Khojaly genocide

It is now 34 years since the genocide committed by Armenians in the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly. 
On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian military units, with the help of the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment of Russia, occupied the city of Khojaly and committed genocide against the civilian population living there - Azerbaijanis. 
Armenian armed units, with the help of armored vehicles and military personnel of the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment, which had been stationed in the city of Khankendi since the USSR, attacked the city of Khojaly on February 25, 1992. 2,500 residents of the besieged city moved towards Agdam to escape. However, the Armenians, who were in ambush, opened fire on the civilians. As a result of the Khojaly genocide, the tragedy of the century, 613 residents of Khojaly were killed, including 63 children, 106 women, and 70 elderly people, 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents. 487 people, including 76 children, were injured by enemy bullets. 1,275 people were taken prisoner. The fate of 150 of those taken hostage, including 68 women and 26 children, is still unknown. The anniversary of the Khojaly genocide is marked with sadness every year in Azerbaijan and many countries around the world. By the decree of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev dated February 25, 1997, a minute of silence was declared every year on February 26 at 5:00 PM in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a sign of respect for the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide. The day of remembrance of the Khojaly genocide has become a symbol of the unity and national passion of the Azerbaijani people.
