Today is Ilakhir Charshanba

Today, the last of Novruz - Ilakhir Charshanba is celebrated in Azerbaijan. Among the people, it is called Torpag (Soil) Wednesday.

According to tradition, the last Charshanba is celebrated with special solemnity.

 On Ilakhir Charshanba, Peganum harmala and fires are burn, bonfires are jumped over, beret is thrown, ear fortune-telling is done.

On the last Charshanba, everyone, regardless of age or gender, must jump over the bonfire. The bonfire mustn’t burn. It is considered customary to speak only good words on the last Charshanba.

According to belief, salt, water, money, bread, fire, matches, oil, and bleach will not be given out of from the house on that day. On the last Charshanba, candles are burned according to the number of family members. It should be noted that spring will enter Azerbaijan on March 20 at 07:06:21 Baku time.  Novruz holiday is celebrated in Azerbaijan on March 20-21.
