The staffs of PLE of "Dendrology Garden" investigated in cases of drying in the species of Pinus eldarica Medw. in the park and gardens where in territory of Khazar district

In other words, with the strengthening of climate changes, natural disasters and anthropogenic effects,  are observed a violation of the ecological balance in nature. In addition, extensive work is being done within the framework of environmental protection in our republic, and the demand for evergreen plants in greening. Parks and gardens become a center for reproduction, studying and protetion of vital plant gene fund collections.

Special interest, eager and attention is paid to rare and endangered plant species, which are industrially important and can be accustomed as a source of base raw materials for various sectors of the economy. Pinaceae Lindl. species belonging to the plant family, due to their decorative value and phytoncide properties, are of particular importance in the landscaping of densely populated urban areas in the establishment of green areas.

On April 3, 2024, employees of the "Ecology and Accimatization" and "Landscape architecture and systematics" laboratories of the public legal entity "Dendrology Garden " visited parks and gardens located in Mardakan settlement of Khazar district. The main purpose of the business trip organization is Pinus eldarica Medw. in the Absheron Peninsula. It is the studying of drying cases observed in the species and the investigation of its use in landscape architecture.

During the research, specialists carried out research on  Pinus L., Euonymus L., Eucalyptus L'Her., Cupressus L.I., Nerium L., Ligustrum L., Thuja L. and some species of other genera in field conditions. They determined the relative amount of chlorophyll in the green leaves of each species with the Spad-502 Plus Chlorophyll meter device  in 5 mm2 area and the photosynthesis parameters with the Plant Photosynthesis meter 3051C equipment.

As a preliminary result, more cases of drying from bottom to top were observed in Eldar pine in Mardakan settlement. Stress water of needles can reason  to die from the bottom up, and as a natural response, the tree shows a protective response by drying out lower branches to relieve stress from other parts of the tree.

Needles turning brown in Eldar pines is a sign of poor watering or lack of nutrients. Since various species of the pine genus are salt-resistant by origin, they continue to tolerate low and medium salinity in the steppe soils of Absheron. Improper agrotechnical care and poor watering, low fertilization can cause the needles to drop or the plant to dry up.

In species of Pinus eldarica Medw in parks and gardens where in territory of  Khazar district. The investigation of the drying cases occurring in the species will be continued by the relevant laboratories of the Dendrology Garden.
