Today is the memorial day of outstanding ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
Zarifa Aziz Gizi Aliyeva was born on April 28, 1923 in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
In 1947, she graduated from Azerbaijan State Medical Institute named after N. Narimanov. She worked as a researcher at the Azerbaijan Scientific-Research Institute of Ophthalmology, and since 1969 as an associate professor of the Department of Eye Diseases, professor, head of the laboratory of occupational pathology of visual organs, and head of the Department of Ophthalmology (1982-1985) at the A. Aliyev Azerbaijan Physicians Improvement Institute.
Z. Aliyeva has exceptional services in the development of the science of ophthalmology in Azerbaijan. She made invaluable contributions to the study, prevention and treatment of trachoma, which was widespread in Azerbaijan, and eye diseases related to professional activity in the chemical and electronic industries.
Z. Aliyeva is one of the authors of many high-profile studies on modern problems of ophthalmology, including rare scientific works such as "Therapeutic ophthalmology", "The basics of iridodiagnostics", 12 monographs, textbooks and teaching aids, about 150 scientific works, one invention and 12 is the author of the streamlining proposal.
Academician Zarifa Aliyeva was a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Society of Ophthalmologists, the Soviet Peace Protection Committee, the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan Ophthalmology Society, and the editorial board of the journal "Vestnik Ophthalmologist" (Moscow).
In 1981, she was awarded the M.I. Averbakh prize of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR for her high scientific achievements.
Zarifa Aliyeva is the wife of Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev, mother of President Ilham Aliyev.
She died on April 15, 1985 in Moscow.
