"For a Green World" NGO Coalition met with SOCAR officials

"For a Green World" Civil Society Platform NGO Coalition held a meeting at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). Members of the management of the coalition took part in the meeting.

In the meeting with representatives of SOCAR, Rakif Gafarov and Nigar Mehdiyeva, the members of the coalition talked about the responsibilities of civil society, state institutions, and municipalities in the 2024 "Year of Environmental Solidarity for the Green World", during the preparation period for COP29.

The members of the coalition considered it important to increase propaganda and agitation work in the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World". Then information was given about the proposals put forward by the institution. It was noted that it is important to establish an Ecology Academy where seminars and trainings will be held for young volunteers, ecologists, civil society activists and journalists with the participation of professional trainers.

Elman Jafarli, chairman of the "Green World" Environmental Awareness Public Union, employee of the "Dendrology Garden" PLE, considered it vital to open and operate the Eko.TV YouTube channel, which will regularly carry out environmental education in the society. "Most of the YouTube channels operating in the Azerbaijani language on the Internet are socio-politically oriented. Although there are specialized journalists in the media who write about medicine, the military, politics, geopolitics, and sports, there are no personnel specialized in ecology.  It is necessary to form such personnel and to involve them in training for this," he said.

Chairman of the Ecological Public Union "Towards a Healthy Life", employee of the Institute of Radiation Problems, Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, Sadig Hasanov talked about the crucial tasks to be done in connection with the transition to green energy.  He said that the creation of transport infrastructure based on ecological projects in large cities, especially in the Baku (capital city), is the need of the day.

Rakif Gafarov, the representative of SOCAR, emphasized that the organization he represents is sensitive to environmental issues and spoke about the company's ideas and initiatives related to the transition to green energy.  He said that the proposals made at the meeting will be brought to the attention of the company's management.
