An international scientific-practical conference on "New calls in ensuring biodiversity sustainability (COP29) - green world and human health" was held in Nakhchivan

On 3-4 June, 2024, the working group of the public legal entity " Dendrology Garden": "The Authorized Representation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan State University, the Institute of Botany of the Ministry of Science and Education and the Public Union of the Society of Botanists of Azerbaijan jointly participated in the international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with the organization "New Calls in Ensuring the Sustainability of Biodiversity (COP29) - Green World and Human Health".

The opening ceremony of the conference took place in the Botanical garden of Institute of Bioresources (Nakhchivan) Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan near Shikhmahmud village of Babak district.

Rector of Nakhchivan State University Elbrus Isayev and Director of MSERA   Botany Institute, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, who talked at the opening ceremony of the event, wished everyone success during the conference.

In the section of plenary reports, Deputy Chairman of the Management Staff of the public legal entity "Dendrology Garden", PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Samira Baghirova talked about the history of the establishment of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in her speech.

 He said that the establishment of the Autonomous Republic was a historical necessity: "The establishment of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on 9 February, 1924 has a crucial political significance in terms of solving the future destiny of this ancient land and ensuring the territorial integrity of our country.

Special attention was paid to the socio-economic development of Nakhchivan during both the reigns of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The special attention and care for Nakhchivan is being successfully continued during the period of President Ilham Aliyev.

The conference continued its work for 2 days in 8 sections. PhD in biology, associate professor Samira Baghirova participated in the panel discussions as a moderator.

The head of the "Plant protection and development" department, associate professor Agil Gasimov, and Khadija Aliyeva the consulting agronomist of that department, Shabnam Ashrafova head of the "Landscape architecture and systematics" laboratory, "Effect of harmful organisms on introduced plant species in the territory of the Dendrology Garden", she presented her theses entitled "Influence of climate variability on the dynamics of photosynthesis in the Pinus eldarica Medw. species".

Also, the employees presented their theses with poster presentations. At the end of the conference, certificates were presented to the participants.

In the later stages of the scientific-practical conference, an educational excursion of the participants to Zangezur National Park named after Academician Hasan Aliyev was organized.

During the excursion, the participants got acquainted with the museum of fauna and flora located in the territory of the park.
