The development of industry led to the pollution of nature and the environment by human hands at a great speed. Humanity, which felt that it was cutting down the branch it was sitting on, realized that it was in fact disrupting the natural balance of the world by renewing itself.
With this awareness, this time he began to maintain the balance of nature. Smart ways were sought for the transformation of industrial enterprises, cars and all kinds of waste without harming nature. States took movement to defense the world through international organizations.
We have to do everything we can to ensure that people can live in a clean world today and in the future.
The celebration of June 5 as World Environment Day was announced on 16 December, 1972 at the 27th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Also, in this session of the General Assembly, a new organization was founded in the UN system - the UN Environment Program (UNEP). World Environment Day is held every year by this organization.
Such a day was held on 11 May, 1971, due to an appeal addressed to the Secretary General of the UN with the signatures of 2,200 scientists and cultural figures from 23 countries of the world. They warned humanity about environmental pollution with their appeals, "Either we save pollution, or pollution saves us."
The General Assembly, in its resolution regarding the celebration of this day, calls on the countries and organizations included in the UN to carry out activities aimed at protecting and improving the environment every year on the eve of this day.
Every year, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) announces the capital cities from European countries to celebrate World Environment Day in the European region. In 2010, along with the Italian cities of Genoa and Swiss Geneva, Azerbaijan's Baku was also chosen as the central city.
