The II International Conference "Mountains: Cultures, Landscapes and Biodiversity" will be held

On 5-6 November, 2024, the II International Conference "Mountains: Cultures, Landscapes and Biodiversity" will be held under the joint organization of the Western Caspian University and the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA).

Among the organizers of the conference was the public legal entity "Dendrology Garden" under the authority of the head of Executive Power of Baku City. Deputy Chairman of the Management Staff of the Dendrology Garden, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Samira Baghirova is a member of the organizing committee of the conference.

 The goal of the II International Conference "Mountains: Cultures, Landscapes, Biodiversity-2024" is to strengthen connections between sources of knowledge and develop ideas, ways and visions for a sustainable future.

The conference will include panel discussions covering four fundamental themes:

1. In the "Assessment of global mountain biological diversity" session, experts from the United Nations Environment Program, Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment and Mountain Research Initiative will lead discussions and present their views, conduct a comprehensive assessment of biodiversity in mountain regions - emphasizing the importance of protecting these unique ecosystems;

2. "Global environmental (ecological) problems" session is dedicated to raising awareness about what measures can be taken to reduce the negative impact of the environmental crisis;

3. "Mountain Cultures" session – traditions of mountain communities, including their music, cuisine, festivals or culture, will provide a window into their unique way of life;

4. "Mountain Tourism and Economic Impacts" session will discuss important tourist destinations in the world, beautiful scenic areas that attract visitors with their rich cultural heritage, sports attractions, remote rural mountain communities suitable for tourism and areas that are a source of economic opportunities without exploiting the natural and cultural heritage along the landscapes, the aims to build resilience that helps conserve and promote geodiversity.

It should be noted that the upcoming conference is a continuation of the 1st International Conference on "Mountains: Cultures, Landscapes and Biodiversity" organized by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation and Western Caspian University on 10-12 May, 2019.
