A conference on the effect of climate change on agriculture was held in Nakhchivan
A conference on the topic “The impact of climate change on the development of agriculture” was held in Nakhchivan.
The participants of the conference, jointly organized by the Ministries of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, visited the monument to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the basic square of Nakhchivan city and put flowers in front of it.
Firstly, at the conference, the dear memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and our martyrs was commemorated with a moment of silence.
Samir Seyidahmadli, Deputy of Authority Representative of the President of Azerbaijanin the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, wished success to the work of the conference dedicated to the current topic and expressed his confidence that the conference will contribute to strengthening measures to combat climate change.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Nakhchivan Autonomos Republic, acting minister Khayala Dadashova convey that the aim is to jointly discuss measures to be taken to combat climate change after COP29.
The conference included speeches by Bariz Mehdiyev, Deputy Head of the Partnership and Coordination Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Azerbaijan, Ihsan Amiralioghlu, Head of the Plant Production Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, and Gulbeniz Ganbarova, Chairwoman of the Azerbaijan Rural Women’s Association. In the speeches, the declaration of 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” in Azerbaijan and the holding of COP29 in our country this year were evaluated as a crucial contribution to future initiatives, strengthening cooperation efforts in the field of sustainable development, and the establishment of partnership relations.
Also, the conference was attended by PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Samira Baghirova, Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Personnel of the public legal entity “Dendrology Garden” under the authority of the head of the Executive Power of Baku City.
S.Baghirova said that agriculture is one of the most sensitive sectors to the effects of global climate change. According to her, climate change has a major impact on crop production, soil fertility, water supply and agricultural ecosystems. Therefore, a number of measures and strategies should be implemented to increase the resilience of agriculture to climate change.
The conference continued its work with panel discussions on the topics “The role of climate in sustainable agriculture, food and water supply” and “Scientific approaches and increasing human potential”.
