Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis
Today, December 31, is Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
This holiday plays a crucial role in the bonds of solidarity between Azerbaijanis living around the world.
The foundations of Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis were laid in late December 1989, when the borders (the USSR (The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics)-Iranian borders) were dismantled in Nakhchivan. All borders in Russia and Azerbaijan were erected.
At that time, a conference of Turkic peoples was held in Istanbul. The conference also decided to celebrate the solidarity of world Azerbaijanis.
On 16 December, 1991, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, then chairman position of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Heydar Aliyev, was prevented from supporting the unity of world Azerbaijanis, and December 31 was declared Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis. Since then, December 31, dear to all Azerbaijanis, is celebrated as Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
Azerbaijanis are proud of this day and celebrate it with pride.
Happy holiday!
