33 years have passed since the Khojaly massacre (genocide)

This is the next anniversary of the occupation of the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly by the Armenian armed forces with the participation of the 366^th motorized rifle regiment of Russia and the commission of the Khojaly massacre. On 25-26 February, 1992, Armenian military units attacked the city of Khojaly with the assist of the 366^th motorized rifle regiment of Russia. 2,500 residents of the city moved towards Aghdam to escape. The Armenians, in turn, opened fire on the civilians. Another mass massacre committed by the Armenian aggressors against the Azerbaijani people claimed the lives of 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people. 1,275 civilians were taken prisoner, the fate of 150 of whom is still unknown. 475 people were disabled. 8 families were completely destroyed. 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents.

In 1994, at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, the Milli Majlis adopted a special resolution “On 26 February – Khojaly Massacre Day”. The document detailed the causes for the incident and the perpetrators.

A monument called “Mother's Cry” was erected in the Khatai district of Baku in memory of the victims of the Khojaly massacre.

Thanks to the heroism of the victorious Azerbaijani Army, the blood of the Khojaly martyrs did not remain on the ground. Our heroic Army, which showed unparalleled samples of courage in the 44-day war, avenged the victims of the Khojaly tragedy under the leadership of the President, Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. The city of Khojaly was cleared of separatists on 19-20 September, 2023 as a consequence of local anti-terrorist measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Army in Karabakh. President Ilham Aliyev raised the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khojaly, along with Aghdere, Asgaran, Khojavend, and Khankendi, on 15 October, 2023. Representatives of the military junta suspected of committing the Khojaly incident were arrested and brought to Baku, and right now, the Khojaly tragedy is being mentioned as one of the criminal episodes in their court.
