Today is Novruz holiday in Azerbaijan

Today, the Azerbaijani people celebrate one of their favorite holidays, Novruz holiday.

This is the fifth Novruz holiday celebrated by the Azerbaijani people after the victory in the Patriotic War.

This year, spring in Azerbaijan will fall on 20 March at 13:01:25 Baku time. At this time, the day and night will be equal. The sun will move along the ecliptic and move from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere. From that moment, spring will commence in the Northern hemisphere.

Novruz holiday is the first day of spring, which heralds the equinox. The celebration of Novruz means welcoming the new year, the first day of spring.

Novruz holiday was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO on 30 September, 2009.

In ancient times, a number of peoples associated the arrival of spring with the revival of nature, held festivities on this occasion, and celebrated it as the beginning of a new year. According to some old beliefs, the universe was created from four elements – water, fire, earth (soil or land), and wind. That is why four Wednesdays are celebrated before the Novruz holiday every year.
