Seminar titled “For the sake of a green future: let’s protect the environment” was held at the “Dendrology Garden” public legal entity (PLE) under the authority of the head of the Executive Power of Baku City.
The moderator of the seminar, Shabnam Ashrafova, head of the “Landscape Architecture and Systematics” laboratory of the “Dendrology Garden” public legal entity, said that global climate change has had serious consequences in recent years.
“Global climate change has become a serious problem that worries the world. What is more worrying is the impact of climate change on the living world. The increase in greenhouse gas emissions consequences in additional warming of the earth’s surface and atmosphere. Climate change has a negative impact on natural ecosystems, as well as productivity. This can put our world at serious risk.”
Shabnam Ashrafova, who delivered a report on the topic of “Priority Tasks in Environmental Protection”, stated that in the new era, the priority tasks ahead are to maintain ecological balance, use natural resources economically, and protect water, soil, and atmospheric air from pollution. According to her, issues of concern such as the growth of the world population, industrialization, global warming, damage to the ozone layer, and depletion of natural resources have a serious impact on environmental thinking and activities.
Sh.Ashrafova made a speech in recent years, a number of international agreements have been reached and conventions have been adopted to protect biological diversity, protect rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, and eliminate illegal hunting.
Then, Murad Musayev, an employee of the “Plant Protection and Development Department”, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor, gave a report on “Ways to Protect the Ecosystem in the Face of Global Climate Change”.
Emphasizing that the main sources of atmospheric air pollution are large industrial enterprises and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, M.Musayev noted that the way out of the situation is proposed to switch to renewable energy. According to him, in recent years, important projects have been implemented in the world and in our country towards the transition to renewable energy and advanced practices have been achieved.
“Azerbaijan’s renewable energy potential – the volume of wind and solar energy on land exceeds 27 gigawatts, and wind energy in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is 157 gigawatts. Azerbaijan has declared the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions as green energy zones. Construction and reconstruction works carried out within the framework of the “Great Return” program are based on ecological projects and green technologies. On January 9, 2020, Implementation Agreements were signed between Saudi Arabia’s “ACWA Power” and the United Arab Emirates’ “Masdar” companies on the implementation of pilot projects on renewable energy.”
Then, questions of eager to the participants were answered.
