22 years have passed since the death of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev

Today is the anniversary of the death of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev.
Heydar Alirza oglu Aliyev was born on 10 May, 1923 in the city of Nakhchivan. 

Working in the security system, Heydar Aliyev served as Deputy Chairman of the State Security Committee under the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR from 1964, and as Chairman from 1967, rising to the rank of Major General. 
On 14 July, 1969, Heydar Aliyev became the political leader of Azerbaijan.
In December 1982, Heydar Aliyev was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and became one of the leaders of the USSR. 
He made a statement the next day at the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow regarding the bloody tragedy committed by Soviet troops in Baku on 20 January, 1990, demanding the punishment of the organizers and executors of the crime committed against our people. 
Heydar Aliyev, who returned to Azerbaijan in July 1990, first lived in Baku, then in Nakhchivan, and in the same year was elected a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan. In 1991-1993, he was the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 
On 15 June, 1993, the great leader, who was invited to Baku, was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, and on 24 July, by the decision of the Milli Majlis, he began to exercise the powers of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On 3 October, 1993, Heydar Aliyev was elected President of Azerbaijan as a result of a nationwide vote. 
On 11 October, 1998, he was re-elected President of Azerbaijan, collecting 76.1 percent of the vote in the elections held in conditions of high public activity.
Heydar Aliyev, who agreed to run for president in the presidential elections held on 15 October, 2003, refused to participate in the elections due to health problems and withdrew his candidacy in favor of Ilham Aliyev.

On 12 December of the same year, the National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev died at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States of America.
