Today is March 8 - International Women's Day

Women's Day is widely celebrated in Azerbaijan.
As every year, this year too, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the women of the country on 8 March - International Women's Day.
The congratulatory message of the head of state noted that the Azerbaijani people have always considered the female name a symbol of elegance, beauty, and sublimity and have shown deep respect for it:
"Our great past, full of struggles, is rich in bright examples of the wisdom, sacrifice, and heroism of our women. In the heart of every Azerbaijani, it is the concept of Mother that always creates bright feelings related to the native land, the Motherland. Our mothers have made an unparalleled contribution to the preservation of our national and spiritual values, which are our contribution to the treasury of human culture, and to the worthy preservation of our language, which has withstood the test of centuries.
Historically, in our country, the active participation of women in public life has always been treated with sympathy and respect. The fact that Azerbaijani women obtained the right to be elected and re-elected earlier than women in many advanced countries of the world is an expression of this progressive attitude. Our women, who have gained high public positions and influence with their socio-cultural initiatives in recent years, are still successfully working in the fields of education, culture, healthcare, and science today are working”.
It should be noted that the history of the women's movement began in 1857 with the protest of New York women against the 12-hour workday. In 1910, German socialist Clara Zetkin achieved the celebration of March 8 as World Women's Day. In 1977, the UN officially recognized this date as International Women's Day.
According to Article 105 of the Labor Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, March 8 is a non-working day every year.
