Phytosanitary monitoring carries on in Dendrology Garden

Regular monitoring is being conducted to assess the phytosanitary condition of existing plants in Dendrology Garden.
During the monitoring, a hazardous pest, the Australian striped cushion (Icerya purchasi Maskell), was discovered on Lankaran acacia (Albizia julibrissin Durazz) located in garden. In this regard, the staff of the Department of “Ensuring the Defence and Development of Plants” of “Dendrology Garden” public legal entity under the authority of the head of the Executive Power of Baku City studied the bioecological features of the pest, and prepared and applied measures to combat it.
For experimental aims, on 20 February, 2026, before the plants began to bud, sanitary pruning was carried out on the branches massively infected with the pest. The pruned parts were treated with garden ointment to protect them from diseases and pests.
On 24 February, 2026, a mixture of insecticide and acaricide was prepared and applied against the pest. Two old and one 3–5-year-old (approximately 150 cm high) Lankaran acacia were selected for the test. 
During the observations, no noticeable changes were recorded in the pests on the first day, but from the second day on, it was observed that adults were leaving the branches. 
According to the consequences of the latest monitoring conducted in May-June, the Australian striped moth was almost not found on the treated branches. The results obtained confirm the high efficiency of the applied chemical preparations.
