In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the "Socio-economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2022-2026", the scale of the work done to make Baku one of the most beautiful cities in the world is increasing year by year. The "Chambarakand" park, built in the Sabail district of Baku city, which was opened by the head of state Ilham Aliyev on June 8, 2022, is one of the measures aimed in this direction. Landscaping work was carried out in the new park in the unused area on Hasan Seyidbeyli street of Baku city, 1,200 meters of sidewalks were built, and all conditions were created for residents to have a meaningful rest and spend their leisure time effectively.
On August 4, 2023, employees of the "Landscape Architecture and Systematics" laboratory of the public legal entity "Dendrology Garden" went on a business trip to the "Chambarakand" park under the leadership of senior specialist Shabnam Ashrafova. In accordance with the scientific research work plan, the perspective of using decorative plants in the park area in landscape architecture was monitored. During the observations, it became clear that the area has a colorful landscape diversity. More than 50,000 different types of trees, shrubs and flowers have been planted in the green area of the 4-hectare park. The grouping of various trees, shrubs and grasses according to their decorative features, and the forms of compositions were analyzed in the park area. It was determined that in the creation of landscape designs, rectangular and circular shapes are used in the regular style, and decorative, floral, original shapes are used in the scenic style. A retaining wall has been built in the park to prevent landslides. A special design was given to the retaining wall by covering it with various bushes and vines. In the territory of the park Pinus eldarica Medw., Nerium oleander L., Laurus nobilis L., Morus rubra L., Cupressus sempervirens for. Pyramidalis, Olea europae L., Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle, Ulmus carpinifolia Suckow, Rosmarinus officinalis L. and Ligustrum japonicum Thunb., Pyracantha coccinea M.Roem. decorative plant species prevail. In the landscaping of the area, Cycas revoluta Thunb., Hydrangeas macrophylla Ser., Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) (Endl.) Manetti, Berberis thunbergii DC. such species were used.
The main purpose of the monitoring carried out in the territory of "Chambarakand" park is to research and systematize new plant species suitable for soil and climate conditions in the parks and gardens of the Absheron Peninsula, to determine the perspective of using new species whose taxonomic composition is studied in greening, and to apply them in the landscape compositions of the Dendrology Garden. Currently, according to the scientific research work plan of "Dendrology Garden" PLE 2024, the systematic and taxonomic composition of plant species in the area of "Chambarakand" park is being investigated and grouped.
